FAQS

Learn More

  • A carbon footprint measures the total amount of greenhouse gases (GHGs) emitted by a person, organisation, product, or service, usually expressed in tonnes of CO₂ equivalent (tCO₂e).

Carbon footprints can be calculated for:

    • An organisation

    • A product or service

    • A sector or country

    • A household or individual

Tracking your carbon footprint is the first step in reducing and offsetting your emissions effectively.

  • Emission scopes categorise where your GHG emissions come from:

    • Scope 1 (Direct emissions): Emissions from sources your business owns or controls (e.g. company vehicles, boilers).

    • Scope 2 (Indirect emissions): Emissions from the energy your business buys and uses (e.g. electricity, heating).

    • Scope 3 (Value chain emissions): All other indirect emissions from suppliers, transportation, employee commuting, waste disposal, and product use.

Understanding these scopes is critical to accurately calculating your carbon footprint and targeting reductions.

  • Carbon neutrality refers to a state where there is no net increase in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions during a defined time period. This means a business reduces its emissions as much as possible and offsets the rest to achieve a balanced impact on the climate.

The process is guided by international standards, most recently the ISO 14068-1 standard, which replaced the former PAS 2060 specification. It outlines the requirements for measuring, reducing, and offsetting GHG emissions to achieve certified carbon neutrality.

  • Carbon offsetting involves compensating for your emissions by investing in projects that either reduce or remove GHGs from the atmosphere.

    • Emission reduction projects: e.g. renewable energy, improved cookstoves, preventing deforestation

    • Carbon removal projects: e.g. restoring forests, peatlands, or using direct air capture technology

We partner with a reputable global Carbon Registry to ensure your offsets support high-quality, verifiable projects, with full transparency via an online tracking portal.

  • ISO stands for the International Organisation for Standardisation. It’s an independent, non-governmental organisation made up of 167 national standards bodies. ISO develops internationally agreed standards that help ensure quality, safety, efficiency, and sustainability across industries.

  • Verification is an independent assessment carried out by a third party, which results in a Verification Opinion Statement confirming the accuracy of your carbon data and reduction claims.

Certification is the formal recognition that your organisation has successfully met the requirements of ISO 14068-1, based on verified data and assessment conducted by CBAM-UK Ltd.

  • Yes. As part of achieving ISO 14068-1 certification, your business will need to offset any remaining carbon emissions that cannot be reduced.

To ensure trust and transparency, we provide access to a newly launched carbon offset fund that spreads your contribution across a portfolio of fully verified projects. You’ll be able to track your impact online, giving you peace of mind that your offsets are making a real difference.

  • No, ISO 14068-1 is a voluntary certification. However, it’s becoming increasingly important as customers, investors, and supply chains demand credible sustainability action. Certification can give your business a competitive edge and support ESG goals.

  • The cost varies depending on your business size, emissions complexity, and chosen verification route (conversion or direct). During your call, we’ll provide costs, including data support, verification, and carbon offsetting.

  • You’ll be guided with a kick-off call from CBAM-UK Ltd (who provide the independent third party verification), an onboarding document, and a data capture template to point you the right direction. They’ll re-engage with you at key quarterly and annual milestones to help keep you on track for a successful verification.

  • Once certified, you’ll receive an official ISO 14068-1 certificate and access to ongoing support. You’ll also be eligible for annual reviews, access to work opportunities via the Motornomic Network, and use of digital tools to track continuous improvements.

  • Yes — PAS 2060 will be withdrawn in 2025. It is being replaced by ISO 14068-1, the new internationally recognised standard for carbon neutrality. Businesses currently certified to PAS 2060 are encouraged to begin their transition early to maintain continuity and credibility in their carbon claims.

The Carbon Credentials programme is designed to help you make a smooth and supported conversion from PAS 2060 to ISO 14068-1 with verified third-party guidance.

  • Absolutely. Our process is designed to support businesses of all sizes. Many of our clients are independent garages and SMEs looking to build credibility and future-proof their operations.
